NVIDIA Releases Auto Ontology: Open Semantic Layer for Grounding AI Agent SQL Queries

NVIDIA has open-sourced Auto Ontology, a semantic layer framework designed to give AI agents a structured, grounded understanding of database schemas so they can generate accurate SQL without hallucinating column names, relationships, or table structures. The tool sits between a language model and a data source, maintaining a machine-readable ontology that the agent queries before generating SQL. This directly addresses one of the most common failure modes in enterprise agentic analytics: agents confidently producing syntactically valid but semantically wrong queries. Developers building text-to-SQL pipelines or agentic data analysis tools can integrate Auto Ontology to reduce hallucination rates and improve query reliability in production. As an open-source release from NVIDIA, it is designed to be infrastructure-agnostic and integrable with existing LLM stacks.
